Catch Me If You Can: Plan Your Active Recovery Before Life Catches Up With You

We idle too fast and too long at times.

Like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, we hustle and bustle to the tune of:

I’m late, I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say ‘hello, goodbye,’ I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!

As we’re running, we forget to intentionally slow down and build in periods of active recovery.

  • When did you take a break today and do nothing?
  • When and how are you actively sabbathing this week?
  • When will you schedule 3–4 days this month to recharge?
  • When will you get away this quarter for 7–10 days?
  • When’s your big vacation for the year?

Active recovery requires active planning.

For all the Type As out there, this is harder than anything else — the grit to recover.

Tom Brady put it best when he said, “Your ability to perform is only as good as your ability to recover.”

But if we take no time to recover, recovery will catch up with us, and not in a good way.

As you go about your weekend, know that life can and will catch up with you if you don’t.

Recover well.
